What is Rideshare Matching?

PART offers a free rideshare matching service which matches individuals with similar commutes and work schedules together for potential carpools and vanpools.  Participants are also provided with bus routes and park & ride lots located within their area.  Rideshare matches can be provided onsite at the employer location, via telephone, by mail, or by logging on to www.sharetheridenc.org.

  

Vanpool Leasing

PART leases both 7-passenger and 15-passenger vans to groups of commuters who live at least 10 miles from their workplace and agree to share their daily commute to and from work.  Vanpools must originate or conclude in one of PART’s 10 member counties (Alamance, Davie, Davidson, Forsyth, Guilford, Randolph, Rockingham, Stokes, Surry, Yadkin).

• Saves thousands of dollars each year (2008 AAA avg. cost of operating a vehicle, 54 cents per mile)
• Eliminates wear and tear on vehicles
• Reduces insurance premiums
• Improves air quality (15-passenger van eliminates over 500 pounds of pollution)
• Reduces stress and driving fatigue
• Improves personal time-management
• Increases personal safety while commuting
• Reduces parking expenses
• 15-passenger van driver and back-up driver typically ride free of charge with full van
• Drivers receive orientation, training and on-going management support of the van
• Drivers allowed limited personal use of van free of charge

 

Costs

• Monthly Fare covers fuel, insurance, maintenance, vehicle mileage, and emergency ride home
• Fares vary based on number of passengers, fuel option and roundtrip mileage
• Fares reviewed for possible adjustments effective February 1^st and August 1st
• Example- Mt. Airy to Winston-Salem (GMAC), 74 roundtrip miles, 15-passenger van filled to capacity, $71.00 per passenger
• Driver pays $300.00 *refundable security deposit.  Money can be collected from each member but security deposit returned to driver provided that vehicle is in good condition at lease termination

 

Next Steps

• Obtain at least six people to lease a mini van or nine people to lease a 15-passenger van
• Utilize PART’s Ridesharing office to assist with gathering vanpool members.
• Select Driver and Back-up drivers who are at least 25 years old, possess valid Class C driver’s license, no more than 3 points on driving record, and no D.W.I convictions
• Pay Security Deposit
• Driver & Back-up driver(s) signs vanpool lease agreement with PART (operates on a month-to-month basis).  Need 30 days notice for lease termination
• Design route and pickup location(s) to determine roundtrip mileage
• Participants may opt to use PART’s free Park & Ride lots around the Piedmont Triad region
• Driver & Back-up driver(s) certification and training
• Sign Driver/Rider agreement
