Public Education

The City of High Point has formed partnerships with other cities and counties to educate the public on the impacts of stormwater runoff on water quality.

PTWQP LogoPiedmont Triad Water Quality Partnership - is a collaboration of sixteen local governments in the Piedmont Triad that work together to educate residents about stormwater and water quality issues; including non-point source pollution, regulations, and best management practices.  Funding is use to develop/broadcast television commercials and to purchase education materials such as pamphlets, watershed signs, and storm drain makers.

Stormwater SMART LogoStormwater SMART was created by the Piedmont Triad Council of Governments (PTCOG) to assist local governments in meeting and exceeding stormwater outreach and education requirements under the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permitting program.  This is an unfunded federal mandate that requires many of our local governments to implement a comprehensive stormwater management program. Stormwater SMART and our member governments believe addressing stormwater runoff as a community is essential to reducing pollution at a watershed level. (Check out the Stormwater Steward. A Stormwater SMART publication that is published quarterly.)

CYN LogoThe Carolina Yards & Neighborhoods Program (CY&N) is currently being implemented by NC Cooperative Extension as a pilot program in five Piedmont counties. This program emphasizes nine basic principles: Right Plant, Right Place; Water Efficiently; Fertilize Appropriately; Mulch; Attract Wildlife; Control Yard Pests Responsibly; Recycle; Reduce Stormwater Runoff; and Protect the Waterfront.
Carolina Yards & Neighborhoods teaches you in a simple way how to design, install and maintain your lawn and landscape. You’ll be able to transform your yard into a beautiful oasis, while saving you time, energy and money. As you incorporate these principles into your landscape, your yard will help conserve water resources and reduce pollution. If you would like more information about Carolina Yards and Neighborhoods or are interested in attending a workshop, call Cooperative Extension in your county.
  Public Speaking

Public Speaking - The Stormwater Division can make speakers available. Presentations can be made to community groups, businesses, for public events, and in the classroom to talk about stormwater pollution. We can staff a table filled with educational materials. These presentations can be customized to tailor your group's needs. For more information on how you can protect water quality, or to invite a speaker to meet with your group, please call the Stormwater Division at: (336) 883-3455 or click on the title link to fill out our volunteer information form.
