How often do you post jobs?
Job Opportunities are posted every 2 weeks.
I’m interested in working for the city; how do I get an Application for Employment?
Applications are only issued or accepted for those jobs being advertised. You may stop by the Human Resources Department at 211 Hamilton Street, Room 308; download an Application from the City’s website www.highpointnc.gov or we can mail one to your address.
What is the application process?
You must complete a City of High Point application for each advertised position with the city. Resumes are not accepted in lieu of the approved application form available from the City's Human Resources Department or the website: www.highpointnc.gov. Upon receipt of your application, it is entered into our database. After the closing date, applications are reviewed and assessed based on the skills and qualifications required for the job. Only those meeting the job requirements are forwarded to the department for further consideration and only the finalists are contacted for an interview.
Why is it important to read the entire job announcement? Announcement includes the following important information:
Salary
Position description
Knowledge and Abilities/Skills/Essential Task
Minimum qualifications
Deadline date
How are Applications evaluated?
The Human Resources Department reviews all applications for jobs and refers only the most qualified applicants to the hiring department for interviews. The decision is solely based on job-related qualifications you provide on the Application form.
Contacts with “finalists” regarding interviews usually occur within 30-45 days after the closing date. If not, you are urged to seek out and apply for other jobs for which you are qualified.
May I submit a resume?
You may submit your resume but only in addition to a completed Application for Employment.
How will I know if I have been selected?
You will be contacted either by phone, and/or mail with a conditional job offer letter. A post-employment physical examination, including a drug test is required of every person to whom a job offer is extended.
How long does it take to make a decision once the closing date has passed?
Normal timeframe is 30-45 days from the closing date before you may or may not hear a decision, but you are welcome to call and check on the status of your application.
Is there a job description for the position posted?
Copies of the job description are included in applications picked up in our office, otherwise, one can be mailed to you for any open position advertised.
