 HIGH POINT POLICE DEPARTMENT

HPPD Citizen's Police Academy

The 2012 winter/spring session of the High Point Police Department Citizen’s Police Academy will begin on January 17th 2012 and will conclude on April 17th 2012 with a graduation ceremony.  This fourteen-class program will give citizens the opportunity to learn about the High Point Police Department and interact with its officers. Classes will meet on Tuesdays with start times of either 6:00 p.m. or 7:00 p.m. and will last until 10:00 p.m.

With a blend of classroom time and hands-on exercises, academy participants will not only learn about the requirements of a police officer’s job, but they will also be presented with the legal and constitutional guidelines which police officers must follow while performing their duties.  Participants cannot miss more than three classes and will be given the opportunity to do a ride along with an officer on Patrol.

To participate in the Citizen’s Police Academy, you must:

-Be 18 years old or older;

-Provide valid ID;

-Have no felony convictions;

-Have no serious misdemeanor convictions in the last 10 years (serious misdemeanor offenses include assaults, domestic related, larceny, alcohol or drug related convictions).

A brief background check will be completed on all applicants, prior to acceptance. The deadline for submission of applications is January, 6th 2012. If you are interested please contact Lt. Mark Lane at (336) 887-7957 or by e-mail at mark.lane@highpointnc.gov. The application can be emailed or downloaded from the HPPD website or you can stop by the High Point Police Department and pick one up.
