Minimum Qualifications
 * Be a United States Citizen
 * Be at least 21 years of age at the completion of training
 * Have no felony, DWI, nor serious misdemeanor charge or conviction
 * Posses or obtain a valid North Carolina driver's license
 * Have vision corrected to 20 / 20
 * Have at least a high school diploma or GED (College is preferred for promotion)
 * Must pass a thorough background investigation
 * Must pass a departmental physical agility test

Salary & Benefits

 

Entry Level Salary
     * High School Diploma $34,157.76
     * Two Year Degree $35,865.44
     * Four Year Degree $37,573.12

 

Newly hired employees are given three raises during their probationary period. These raises occur after three, six, and twelve months of service with the Department. These raises are based on the employee’s performance and the employee can earn up to a 1.5% raise at each interval. This allows for a potential 4.5% increase after the first year, based on satisfactory performance. 

 

For Veterans that qualify for the GI Bill, the High Point Police Department is an active participant in Apprenticeship Training For Veterans. Apprenticeship training is on-the-job learning (OJL) combined
with theoretical related instruction. You receive your GI Bill benefits while working and earning wages. OJL programs normally range from six months to two years in length. For more information click HERE.

Lateral Entry Salary

The starting salary for lateral entry applicants varies depending upon the level of previous law enforcement experience and their Basic Law Enforcement Certification status. Lateral officers will receive a 1% increase above the appropriate base salary for each year of full-time, sworn experience (up to 10 years). Lateral officers are also eligible for the probationary raises mentioned above.
