Summer hours of operation:  Monday-Thursday, 9:00am-9:00pm; Friday, 9:00am-6:00pm; Saturday, 9:00am-2:00pm.

Fall/Winter hours of operation:  Monday & Wednesday, 9:00am-9:00pm; Tuesday, 2:00pm-9:00pm; Thursday, 1:00pm-9:00pm; Friday, 2:00pm-6:00pm; Saturday, 9:00am-12:00pm.  These hours will be in effect during the Guilford County School calendar year. Allen Jay Recreation Center was built in 2008. The center is located in Allen Jay Park at 1073 E. Springfield Road. This facility was funded through the 2004 Bond Referendum and was intended to replace the previous recreation center which was housed at the Old Rock Gym at Allen Jay Middle School, which was closed in December 2004.Allen Jay

The center features a gymnasium, large activity room, kitchen, game room and craft room. The park features three lighted baseball/softball athletic fields, two lighted tennis courts, a lighted outdoor basketball court, two small shelters and a playground. A variety of programs and activities are held at the center year round.

The center is available for rental opportunities to the public when not in use for regular operational programs and activities. You may rent the center for reunions, wedding receptions, graduation parties or any type of family gathering you may have. Call the center to request a date and obtain rates.

Current Programs

After School Program - Pre-K through 5th Grades
2:30-6p.m.  Fee:$125 per month
Registration Packet            
Quality programming and supervision for children. The program includes homework time, arts and crafts, field trips, guest speakers, movies, and physical and educational activities. Afternoon snack and transportation will be provided. Program runs during the school year.


AHOY Senior Exercise
Mondays & Wednesdays
9-10a.m.  A participant led, basic fitness class offered for seniors focusing on increasing flexibility, circulation and overall health.


Ballroom Dance Class - ages 21+
7-8p.m.  Fee:$40 per couple; $20 per single/per month
Instructor: Adina Harper
Informational Poster            
Ballroom dancing is fun and great for physical activity! This class will cover the basics of a variety of ballroom dances and is open to beginners as well as more experienced dancers. Both couples and singles are welcome.


Candy Cane Hunt - ages 3-12
December 6, 2014
12-2p.m.  Enjoy a candy cane hunt, hot apple cider & cocoa with SANTA. Santa will be our official starter of the event and will escort participants back to the Center for refreshments. Participants will then have an opportunity to give Santa their holiday wish list.

Discover all this recreation center has to offer individuals and families, including our high quality, low cost after school program. You will also have the opportunity to learn more about the High Point Public Library services coming soon to Allen Jay Recreation Center, including reference books for homework help. English language instruction, and Library card signup. Enjoy refreshments at the Open House, tour the Bookmobile, meet your librarians, and more!


Halloween Sweet Treat Costume Ball - ages 5-12
October 18, 2014
5-8p.m.  Fee:$5 per person
Celebrate Halloween in a fun, safe environment with a costume contest, music, food , drinks and candy. Prize will be awarded for the best costume!


Haunted Trail

This scary adventure through our Haunted Trail is sure to make you scream, holler and jump! Bring your friends and family for a spooktacular evening of scares.


Thanksgiving Friendships and Family - ages 4-8
November 22, 2014
10:30a.m.-1p.m.  Deadline for enrollment: 11/17/14
Let's give thanks for our friends and family while finding out how and where the "Thanksgiving Holiday" originated. Children will make a friendship bracelet while understanding what it means to be thankful for the people in our lives. Popcorn and drinks will be served.


Walk the Walk
Come out and enjoy our outdoor walking trail. The trail is approximately 1/2 mile long. Gome exercise and enjoy the outdoors!
