Allen Jay Recreation Center was built in 2008. The center is located in Allen Jay Park at 1073 E. Springfield Road. This facility was funded through the 2004 Bond Referendum and was intended to replace the previous recreation center which was housed at the Old Rock Gym at Allen Jay Middle School, which was closed in December 2004.Allen Jay

The center features a gymnasium, large activity room, kitchen, game room and craft room. The park features three lighted baseball/softball athletic fields, two lighted tennis courts, a lighted outdoor basketball court, two small shelters and a playground. A variety of programs and activities are held at the center year round.

The center is available for rental opportunities to the public when not in use for regular operational programs and activities. You may rent the center for reunions, wedding receptions, graduation parties or any type of family gathering you may have. Call the center to request a date and obtain rates.

Summer hours of operation:  Monday-Thursday, 7:30am-9:00pm; Friday, 7:30am-6:00pm; Saturday, 9:00am-1:00pm.

Off-Season hours of operation:  Monday & Wednesday, 9:00am-9:00pm; Tuesday, 2:00pm-9:00pm; Thursday, 1:00pm-9:00pm; Friday, 2:00pm-6:00pm; Saturday, 9:00am-12:00pm.  These hours will be in effect during the Guilford County School calendar year.

 

"Write it Out Loud" Summer Enrichment Camp

7:30a.m.-6p.m.  Fee:$65.00 per week, plus activity fees

Campers will explore various writing forms to enhance and expand their writing skills. They will have opportunities to develop a super hero, use their creative energies in spoken word/poetry, explore journalism and design a children's book. These opportunities will not only enhance their education, but will allow campers to freely create works of art. Campers will also engage in various other summer activities of swimming, playing games, watching movies, and many other activities all while in a safe, fun environment.

 

Adult Open Gym - Women's Basketball

Have you ever wished there was a basketball open gym just women ages 18 and up? This will be a fun, no pressure way to get that all important exercise we all need.

 

After School Program
Monday-Friday
2:30-6p.m.  Fee:$125.00 per month
Registration Packet            
Quality programming and supervision for children in grades K-5. The program includes homework time, arts and crafts, field trips, guest speakers, movies, physical and educational activities. Afternoon snack and transportation will be provided. Program runs during the school year.

 

Allen J Bird Summer Cheer Camp

This program is exciting and a challenging learning environment. Participants will learn the traditional elements of cheerleading. This program will give your child a structured environment that will challenge them both mentally and physically. Participants will perform at the end of the session.

Pickleball

Pickleball is a paddle sport that combines elements of badminton, tennis and table tennis. The game is played with 2 or 4 players on a badminton sized court using wooden paddles and a plastic wiffle ball. Pickleball is a lot of fun and gets you moving. Join our introductory class to learn how to play this fun game. This program is designed for seniors and mature adults. Program will not be held on Monday, May 28.

 

Power Walking

Power walking is a great way to loose weight and meet new people in the neighborhood. Meet by the flag pole for an hour long session. We will tone and tighten our muscles; of course going at your own pace. An instructor will be there to push you through the hard moments that you may want to quit.

 

Walk the Walk

Come out and enjoy our outdoor walking trail. The trail is approximately 1/2 mile long. Come out and get some exercise and enjoy the outdoors.

 

Zumba
Tuesdays & Thursdays

Zumba is a fun way to get into shape. This class combines Latin dance moves with the live vibrations of music that won't let you stand still. The routines will include interval sessions where fast and slow rhythms and resistance will be used to help you burn calories, improve your endurance, tone muscles and get you ready for a night on the town. This is a new wave of exercise that will make you love working out. Package deals: 5 classes for $20, 10 classes for $30, 20 classes for $50.
