Hours of operation:  Monday-Thursday, 9:00am-9:00pm; Friday, 9:00am-6:00pm; Saturday, 9:00am-2:00pm.

Allen Jay Recreation Center was built in 2008. The center is located in Allen Jay Park at 1073 E. Springfield Road. This facility was funded through the 2004 Bond Referendum and was intended to replace the previous recreation center which was housed at the Old Rock Gym at Allen Jay Middle School, which was closed in December 2004. The center features a gymnasium, large activity room, kitchen, game room and craft room. The park features three lighted baseball/softball athletic fields, two lighted tennis courts, a lighted outdoor basketball court, two small shelters and a playground. A variety of programs and activities are held at the center year round.

The center is available for rental opportunities to the public when not in use for regular operational programs and activities. You may rent the center for reunions, wedding receptions, graduation parties or any type of family gathering you may have. Call the center to request a date and obtain rates.

Current Programs

Adult Self Defense Class - ages 18+
Monday
7:20-8p.m.  Fee:$10 per person/per class or $30 per person/per month
An exciting class for men and women to focus on real self-defense principles and skills. If you are interested in being safe, you need to understand that self-defense is not about fancy moves, points, or getting your opponent to tap out. Real self-defense is about survival, there are no rules on the street.

 

After School Program - K-5th Grade
Monday-Friday
August 25, 2015 - June 8, 2016
2:30-6p.m.  Fee:$125 per month + activity fees
Our high quality program offers a variety of activities including gym games, arts & crafts, outside play, cooking, homework assistance and other activities. Transportation is provided. Additional activities will be scheduled throughout the school year for an additional fee. Parents are responsible for daily snacks.

 

AHOY Senior Exercise
Mondays & Wednesdays
9-10a.m.  Seniors, come and enjoy seated exercise as well as stand up aerobics. Class will include line dance exercises. Fellowship with new and old friends while you limber up those stiff joints in a climate-controlled gym. This groups travels on a bi-monthly basis to enjoy shopping, food and a fun getaway.

 

Ballroom Dance Class - ages 55+

August 3, 2015 - August 24, 2015
6:30-7:30p.m.  Fee:$40 per couple; $20 per single/per month
Instructor: Adina Harper
Fun and great for physical activity! Class will cover the basics of a variety of ballroom dances. Good for beginners or persons who want to brush up on their steps. Both couples and singles are welcome.

 

Clipping Coupons for Beginners - ages 15+
Monday-Thursday
September 7, 2015 - November 30, 2015
6:30-7:30p.m.  Fee:$5 per person/per class
Never used a coupon in your life? This class will teach you the basics so you can start saving extreme amounts of money using legitimate couponing methods and keeping a conservative stockpile of items that can pack your pantry, or fit onto an extra shelf or two.

 

Family Martial Arts Class - ages 3+
Monday
6:30-7:10p.m.  Fee:$12 per person/per class or $40 per person/per month
Alongside a parent, your child will learn timeless skills of self-defense and a deep sense of respect for themselves. Participating with a parent, kids will learn the timeless skills of self-defense, along with self-respect and focus.

 

High Point Wheels Car & Bike Show - ages 18+
Saturday
August 15, 2015
2-7p.m.  Fee:$10 for bikes, $20 for cars
Enjoy a car and bike show like no other at Allen Jay Recreation Center that is open to all car and bike enthusiasts. This show will play host to some of the best and baddest cars and bikes in the Triad. There will be food, inflatables, and music on site.

 

Kick Boxing Class - ages 18+
Monday
8:10-8:50p.m.  Fee:$10 per person/per class or $30 per person/per month
This class is high energy, fast-paced and fun. Taught by a dynamic instructor, kickboxing will get your blood pumping and calories burning. Class consists of various punching and kicking drills and combinations that will give your entire body a great workout!

 

Martial Arts Class - ages 3-15
Monday
6:30-7:15p.m.  Fee:$12 per person/per class or $40 per person/per month
Martial Arts teaches the timeless skills of self defense and encourages a deep respect of self respect. This program will teach your child to focus 100% of their energy on something positive that they can be proud of.

 

MIXXEDFIT Classes - ages 13+
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday
6:30-7:30p.m.  Fee:$5 per person/per class
In the new MIXXEDFIT class, we dance to our favorite songs much like we would dance at a nightclub. Then we spice things up by adding boot camp-inspired exercises to make your workout more effective and challenging. If you are plateauing in your traditional dance fitness class, this might be the answer to your prayers!

 

Summer Day Camp - Rising K-5th Grade
Monday-Friday
7:30a.m.-6p.m.  Fee:$65 per person/per week + activity fees

Enjoy your favorite camp activities such as arts & crafts, field trips, team sports and more. Be prepared to have tons of fun with plenty of laughs, smiles and adventures.

 

Walk the Walk
Monday-Sunday
Come out and enjoy our outdoor walking trail. The trail is approximately 1/2 mile long. Come exercise and enjoy the outdoors!

 

Zumba Toning - ages 13+
Thursdays
9:30-10:30a.m. & 6:30-7:30p.m.  Fee:$3 per person
