“Get Out and Get Active” in Greater High Point During National Heart Month

The High Point Parks & Recreation Department, Go Out for a Run (GO FAR) and The Foundation for a Healthy High Point want everyone in the community – children to senior adults - to “Get Out and Get Active” during National Heart Month by walking the healthy maps around the city.

According to the American Heart Association, heart disease is the leading cause of death for men and women in the United States. Every year, 1 in 4 deaths are caused by heart disease.

The good news? Heart disease can often be prevented when people make healthy choices and manage their health conditions. Communities, health professionals, and families can work together to create opportunities for people to become more physically active and make healthier choices. Organizations like GO FAR teach children in our community about character building, nutrition and goal setting.

In High Point/Jamestown there are nine options for the public to choose from.

Locations include:

Allen Jay Recreation Center, 1073 East Springfield Road, High Point
Deep River Recreation Center, 1529 Skeet Club Road, High Point
High Point Athletic Complex, 2920 School Park Road, High Point
High Point City Lake Park, 602 West Main Street, Jamestown
Morehead Recreation Center, 101 Price Street, High Point
Oakview Recreation Center, 503 James Road, High Point
Piedmont Environmental Center, 1220 Penny Road, High Point
Roy B. Culler, Jr. Senior Center, 600 North Hamilton Street, High Point
Wrenn Miller Park, 301 East Main Street, Jamestown

Signs are posted at the facilities outlining the routes and providing information on stretches and healthy eating. The maps provide a one mile and 5K walk/run route around the recreation center. When you arrive, organizers ask you to tag High Point Parks & Recreation, NC and GO FAR (Go Out For A Run) on Facebook with photos of you getting out and getting active!
