Nathanael S. Morehead Recreation Center was built in 1974.  The center is located adjacent to MHRCthe High Point Police Department on Leonard Street.  Originally the center was named the Leonard Street Recreation Center.  The named was changed in 1992  to honor Nathanael S. Morehead.

The center features a gymnasium, activity room, game room, craft room, two shuffleboard courts, two multipurpose athletic fields, four horseshoe pits and a playground.  A variety of programs and activities are held at the center year round.

The Center is available for rental opportunities to the public when not in use for regular operational programs and activities.  You may rent the Center for reunions, birthday parties, wedding receptions, graduation parties or any type of family gathering you may have.  Call the Center to request a date and obtain rates.

Summer hours of operation:  Monday-Thursday, 7:30am-9:00pm; Friday, 7:30am-6:00pm; Saturday, 9:00am-1:00pm.

Off-Season hours of operation:  Monday & Wednesday, 2:00pm-9:00pm; Tuesday & Thursday, 9:00am-9:00pm; Friday, 2:00pm-6:00pm; Saturday, 9:00am-2:00pm.  These hours will be in effect during the Guilford County School calendar year.

 

 

 

"Adventures in Art" Summer Enrichment Camp
Monday-Friday
June 11, 2012 - August 24, 2012
7:30a.m.-6p.m.  Fee:$65.00 per person/per week; plus activity fees
K-5 Registration   6-8 Registration          
This camp is for rising K-5th graders and 6th-8th graders. Campers will explore various arts. Campers will also engage in various other summer activities of swimming, playing games, watching movies, and many other activities all while in a safe, fun environment.

 

After School Program
Monday-Friday
2:30-6p.m.  Fee:$125.00 per month

This is a program that caters to elementary school children. We will pick up your child from school by van transportation and bring them to a safe program site. We have a structured program that consists of gym time, snack time, homework time, craft time and organized play inside and outside. Call for more information and to find out which schools we provide transportation for our program. Program runs throughout the school year.

 

AHOY Exercise Program
Tuesdays & Thursdays

Seniors come enjoy an exercise class that has both seated exercises as well as stand up aerobics. Fellowship with new and old friends and limber up those stiff joints.

 

Midnight Basketball Program
Monday-Thursday

Join us for our Midnight Basketball Program where we teach young people life skills. This program is sponsored by the High Point Parks & Recreation Department. This is a coed program for ages 14-18.

 

Starlight Dancers
Thursdays
5:30-7:30p.m.  Fee:$25.00 per month
Instructor: Cathy Kirby
Information & Registration            
Students will be taught Modern, Jazz, Hip Hop and African Dance. Students will participate in several parades and special events. A one-time registration fee includes a Starlight Dancer T-shirt. Leotards and tights are required. Students will need to be in proper black dance attire. Rules will be posted and students will need to adhere to classroom etiquette for dance.

 

Walkers Club
Tuesdays & Thursdays
9:30-11a.m.  Informational Poster            
Seniors are encouraged to come out and walk laps in our air conditioned gym. 18 laps = 1 mile. Come walk and fellowship with friends prior to our exercise class that follows. You may walk 1 lap or 5 miles, but every bit helps keep you fit.
