Hours of operation:  Monday-Thursday, 9:00am-9:00pm; Friday, 9:00am-6:00pm; Saturday, 9:00am-2:00pm.

Nathanael S. Morehead Recreation Center was built in 1974.  The center is located adjacent to MHRCthe High Point Police Department on Leonard Street.  Originally the center was named the Leonard Street Recreation Center.  The named was changed in 1992  to honor Nathanael S. Morehead.

Morehead Recreation Center features a gymnasium and 3 activity rooms.  Outdoors you will find two shuffleboard courts, two multipurpose athletic fields, four horseshoe pits and a playground.  A variety of programs and activities are held at the center year round.

The Center is available for rental opportunities to the public when not in use for regular operational programs and activities.  You may rent the Center for reunions, birthday parties, wedding receptions, graduation parties or any type of family gathering you may have.  Call the Center to request a date and obtain rates.

A Day of Nature - ages 40+

After School Program - Pre-K through 5th Grades
Monday-Friday
2:30-6p.m.  Fee:$125 per month
Registration Packet            
Quality programming and supervision for children. The program includes homework time, arts and crafts, field trips, guest speakers, movies, physical and educational activities. Afternoon snack and transportation will be provided. Program runs during the school year.

 

AHOY Exercise Program
Tuesdays & Thursdays
11a.m.-12p.m. 
Enjoy exercises that include seated exercises as well as stand up aerobics. The class will include line dance exercises. Fellowship with new and old friends as well as limber up those stiff joints. This group also travels bi-monthly to enjoy shopping, food and a fun getaway.

 

AHOY Trip - Day in Charlotte, NC - ages 55+

AHOY Trip - Gaffney Outlet - ages 55+

Fitness Fridays for Moms - ages 18+

This is an opportunity for stay at home Moms to get out of the house and enjoy a variety of fitness activities. Instructors will lead activities that will help you get your blood pumping and calories burning.

Midnight Basketball Program

Youth will learn and re-enforce life skills to include job applications, mock interviews, parole officers, realities of street life and community health classes. These skills are in conjunction with basketball fundamentals, along with games. Ages at this location are 14-18; ages 10-13 will be at Southside Recreation Center.

This exercise combines targeted body sculpting exercises and high energy cardio work with Latin infused Zumba moves to create calorie torching and strength training fitness. Students will use light weights to enhance rhythm and tone all of their target zones including arms, abs and thighs. Zumba Toning is a perfect way for enthusiasts to sculpt their bodies naturally while having a total blast.
