From time to time this facility will be closed due to weather, maintenance, or private events.  Other events and programs may be changed or cancelled.  Please click on the "Closings, Cancellations & Changes" tab on the left of this page for more information.

Summer hours of operation:  Monday-Thursday, 9:00am-9:00pm; Friday, 9:00am-6:00pm; Saturday, 9:00am-2:00pm.

Fall/Winter hours of operation:  Monday & Wednesday, 2:00pm-9:00pm; Tuesday & Thursday, 9:00am-9:00pm; Friday, 2:00pm-6:00pm; Saturday, 9:00am-2:00pm.  These hours will be in effect during the Guilford County School calendar year.

Nathanael S. Morehead Recreation Center was built in 1974.  The center is located adjacent to MHRCthe High Point Police Department on Leonard Street.  Originally the center was named the Leonard Street Recreation Center.  The named was changed in 1992  to honor Nathanael S. Morehead.

The center features a gymnasium, activity room, game room, craft room, two shuffleboard courts, two multipurpose athletic fields, four horseshoe pits and a playground.  A variety of programs and activities are held at the center year round.

The Center is available for rental opportunities to the public when not in use for regular operational programs and activities.  You may rent the Center for reunions, birthday parties, wedding receptions, graduation parties or any type of family gathering you may have.  Call the Center to request a date and obtain rates.

After School Program - Pre-K through 5th Grades

2:30-6p.m.  Fee:$125.00 per month
Registration Packet            
Quality programming and supervision for children. The program includes homework time, arts and crafts, field trips, guest speakers, movies, physical and educational activities. Afternoon snack and transportation will be provided. Program runs during the school year.

 

AHOY Exercise Program
Tuesdays & Thursdays
11a.m.-12p.m.  Enjoy exercises that include seated exercises as well as stand up aerobics. The class will include line dance exercises. Fellowship with new and old friends as well as limber up those stiff joints in an air conditioned gym. This group also travels bi-monthly to enjoy shopping, food and a fun getaway.

 

Boys 2 Men Club - ages 10-17

Senior Walkers Club
Tuesdays & Thursdays
10-11a.m.  Get fit and participate in our Walkers Club. Enjoy walking in our gym and fellowship with friends prior to our exercise class that follows.

 

Sports and Outdoor Adventure Camp - Summer Enrichment Camp - Grades 6th-8th
Monday-Friday
12-6p.m.  Fee:$50.00 per person/per week + activity fees

Experience this fun-filled camp that teaches skills to better your game with instructions from area qualified coaches. Sports include basketball, football, soccer, baseball, fishing, hiking, tennis, Bocce, Pickleball, Zumba and fitness.

 

Urban Soul Line Dance - ages 18+

Line dancing is a great option for anyone who desires to participate in a healthy lifestyle program, but may not be interested in traditional weight lifting and aerobics classes. Line dancing is choreographed, non-partner dancing with repeated sequences of steps in which people dance in one or more lines or rows, executing the steps at the same time. It's a fun, energizing and great cardio workout! Led by a certified fitness instructor.

 

Zumba
Mondays

This exercise combines targeted body sculpting exercises and high energy cardio work with Latin infused Zumba moves to create calorie torching and strength training fitness. Students will use light weights to enhance rhythm and tone all of their target zones including arms, abs and thighs. Zumba Toning is a perfect way for enthusiasts to sculpt their bodies naturally while having a total blast.
