Hours of operation:  Monday-Thursday, 9:00am-9:00pm; Friday, 9:00am-6:00pm; Saturday, 9:00am-2:00pm.

Nathanael S. Morehead Recreation Center was built in 1974.  The center is located adjacent to MHRCthe High Point Police Department on Leonard Street.  Originally the center was named the Leonard Street Recreation Center.  The named was changed in 1992  to honor Nathanael S. Morehead.

Morehead Recreation Center features a gymnasium and 3 activity rooms.  Outdoors you will find two shuffleboard courts, two multipurpose athletic fields, four horseshoe pits and a playground.  A variety of programs and activities are held at the center year round.

The Center is available for rental opportunities to the public when not in use for regular operational programs and activities.  You may rent the Center for reunions, birthday parties, wedding receptions, graduation parties or any type of family gathering you may have.  Call the Center to request a date and obtain rates.

After School Program - K-5th Grade
Monday-Friday
August 24, 2015 - June 8, 2016
2:30-6p.m.  Fee:$125 per person/per month
Program includes homework time, arts and crafts, field trips, guest speakers, movies, physical and educational activities. Afternnon transportation will be provided. Please supply a snack or money for your child.

 

AHOY Exercise Program
Tuesdays & Thursdays
11a.m.-12p.m. 
Enjoy exercises that include seated exercises as well as stand up aerobics. The class will include line dance exercises. Fellowship with new and old friends as well as limber up those stiff joints. This group also travels bi-monthly to enjoy shopping, food and a fun getaway.

 

Andy Griffith Museum Trip - ages 55+

Take a trip with us to Mount Airy, NC as we learn about the life and legacy of Andy Griffith and tour the museum that was created in his honor.

 

Back to School Fun in the Sun

Start the new school year off with a few games of kickball, dodgeball, soccer and more. We are asking everyone to bring school supplies that will be donated to the Morehead community. Some refreshments will be free, but vendors will be in attendance.

 

Beginner Badminton Classes - ages 18+

August 26, 2015 - October 28, 2015
12-2p.m.  Fee:$4 per person/per class or $40 per person for the 11-week session
Through drills, skills and play, beginners learn rules, form, footwork, technique and more. Advanced players will focus on drills, strategy, and evaluation. Work up a sweat during your lunch hour and let the birdie fly! All equipment will be provided.

 

Dan Nicholas Park Day - ages 55+

Dan Nicholas Park is much more than a park; it’s a chance to experience new things, from the wildlife adventure all the way to the gem mining. Don't miss out on a chance to interact with animals, search for gems, play a few games of mini golf and so much more.

 

Senior Walkers Club

10-11a.m. 
Get fit, participate in our Walkers Club. Enjoy walking in our gym and fellowship with friends prior to our exercise class that follows.

You will be confident knowing your child is making the most of their day in our safe, supervised, and fun-filled environment. Program is available on Teacher Work Days. Parent should provide lunch and two snacks daily.

 

Teen Pickleball Clinic - ages 13-18

Deadline for enrollment: 8/7
A fun game played on a badminton court with the net lowered to 34 inches at the center and with a perforated plastic baseball, similar to a whiffleball, and wood or composite paddles. It is easy for beginners to learn, but can develop into a quick, fast-paced, competitive game for experienced players.

 

Trailblazers Camp - Rising 6th-8th Grade

7:30a.m.-6p.m.  Fee:$65 per person/per week + activity fees

Take an adventure with us this summer! Campers will participate in a variety of sports, games, arts & crafts, field trips and more. There is an additional weekly activity fee to cover field trips.

 

Zumba
Mondays

Zumba Toning
Wednesdays
6:30-7:30p.m.  Fee:$3.00 per class
Instructor: Saundra Walker

This exercise combines targeted body sculpting exercises and high energy cardio work with Latin infused Zumba moves to create calorie torching and strength training fitness. Students will use light weights to enhance rhythm and tone all of their target zones including arms, abs and thighs. Zumba Toning is a perfect way for enthusiasts to sculpt their bodies naturally while having a total blast.
