Hours of operation:  Monday-Thursday, 9:00am-9:00pm; Friday, 9:00am-6:00pm; Saturday, 9:00am-2:00pm.

Nathanael S. Morehead Recreation Center was built in 1974.  The center is located adjacent to MHRCthe High Point Police Department on Leonard Street.  Originally the center was named the Leonard Street Recreation Center.  The named was changed in 1992  to honor Nathanael S. Morehead.

The center features a gymnasium, activity room, game room, craft room, two shuffleboard courts, two multipurpose athletic fields, four horseshoe pits and a playground.  A variety of programs and activities are held at the center year round.

The Center is available for rental opportunities to the public when not in use for regular operational programs and activities.  You may rent the Center for reunions, birthday parties, wedding receptions, graduation parties or any type of family gathering you may have.  Call the Center to request a date and obtain rates.

Current Programs 


After School Program - Pre-K through 5th Grades
2:30-6p.m.  Fee:$125 per month
Registration Packet            
Quality programming and supervision for children. The program includes homework time, arts and crafts, field trips, guest speakers, movies, physical and educational activities. Afternoon snack and transportation will be provided. Program runs during the school year.


AHOY Exercise Program
Tuesdays & Thursdays
11a.m.-12p.m.  Enjoy exercises that include seated exercises as well as stand up aerobics. The class will include line dance exercises. Fellowship with new and old friends as well as limber up those stiff joints. This group also travels bi-monthly to enjoy shopping, food and a fun getaway.


Black Friday Shopping Drop Off - Grades K-5th
November 28, 2014
6a.m.-5p.m.  Fee:$20 per person - all day drop off or $5 per person/per hour
Do you need a place for your kids to go while you shop until you drop on Black Friday? Bring them to a fun place for the day. We will open bright and early for you to drop the kids off before hitting the stores. Kid's activities will include gym play, video games, holiday arts and crafts, age appropriate movies, and board games. Parents must provide lunch for kids staying all day.


Christmas Festival of Lights Trip - ages 8-12
December 5, 2014
6-9p.m.  Fee:$3 per person
Deadline for enrollment: 11/18/14
Kids are invited to join in an evening of fun, food, and the Festival of Lights. Bring a friend! Registration fee includes transportation only; food expenses are on your own.


Senior Holiday Shopping Trip to Concord Mills - ages 50+
November 20, 2014
9a.m.-5p.m.  Fee:$5 per person
As the holidays approach, enjoy a fun-filled day of shopping, fellowship, and good times at Concord Mills. Registration fee includes transportation only; shopping and food expenses are on your own.


Senior Walkers Club
Tuesdays & Thursdays
10-11a.m.  Get fit, participate in our Walkers Club. Enjoy walking in our gym and fellowship with friends prior to our exercise class that follows.


Urban Soul Line Dance - ages 18+
6:30-8p.m.  Fee:$3 per class

Line dancing is a great option for anyone who desires to participate in a healthy lifestyle program, but may not be interested in traditional weight lifting and aerobics classes. Line dancing is choreographed, non-partner dancing with repeated sequences of steps in which people dance in one or more lines or rows, executing the steps at the same time. It's a fun, energizing and great cardio workout! Led by a certified fitness instructor.


6:30-7:30p.m.  Fee:$3 per class

Are you ready to party yourself into shape? That is exactly what the Zumba program is all about. This is an exhilarating, effective, easy to follow, Latin inspired, calorie burning fitness class that is moving millions of people towards health.


Zumba Toning
6:30-7:30p.m.  Fee:$3.00 per class
Instructor: Saundra Walker

This exercise combines targeted body sculpting exercises and high energy cardio work with Latin infused Zumba moves to create calorie torching and strength training fitness. Students will use light weights to enhance rhythm and tone all of their target zones including arms, abs and thighs. Zumba Toning is a perfect way for enthusiasts to sculpt their bodies naturally while having a total blast.
