Hours of operation:
 
Monday-Thursday, 9:00am-9:00pm; Friday, 9:00am-6:00pm; Saturday, 9:00am-2:00pm.

Oakview Recreation Center was built in 1974 and features a gymnasium, activity room, game room, lighted baseball and softball fields, lighted athletic multipurpose field, two lighted tennis courts, two OVRC Building Picturehorseshoe pits, a bocce court, playground and an outdoor shelter with a grill and four picnic tables.

The Center is available for rental opportunities to the public when not in use for regular operational programs and activities.  You may rent the Center for reunions, birthday parties, wedding receptions, graduation parties, or any type of family gathering you may have.  Call the Center to request a date and obtain rates.

Current Programs 

Add Health to our Years (AHOY) Senior Exercise Class - ages 55+
Tuesdays & Thursdays
9-10a.m.  A free, basic fitness class offered for those 55 and older that focuses on increasing flexibility, circulation and overall health.

 

After School Program - Pre-K-5th Grades
Monday-Friday
2:30-6p.m.  Fee:$125 per month
Registration Packet            
Our After School Program provides a fun, safe environment for your child as they complete homework, play gym and outside games, create arts & crafts projects, go on field trips and more. The program operates on days when school is in session. Call us for more program details.

 

Art for Beginners - ages 16+

Children's Cooking Class - ages 5-12

Deck the Halls at Oakview! - Grades K-5th

Get into the Christmas spirit as we prepare delicious Christmas goodies, play games, make crafts and gifts, and learn the basics of gift wrapping. We will also go see a movie! A great opportunity for working parents and parents who need a day to finish holiday errands and shopping. Lunch will be provided. Participants need to bring 2 snacks.

 

Dog Obedience Class - ages 16+

Information & Registration            
Qualified instructors will teach owners and dogs basic commands and socialization skills. Dog must be at least 8-weeks old. Participants must bring their pet's shot record, a 6' non-retractable leash, a choke collar and treats.

 

Groovin' Toddlers - ages 4-5

Holiday Craft Bazaar

Information & Registration            
Calling all artists, crafters and shoppers. Shoppers can peruse booths selling unique items from toys, teacher's gifts, jewelry, holiday decorations, sewn items, woodcrafts and much more. If you would like to participate as a vendor, please contact the center to reserve your spot. Door prizes will be given away throughout the day.

 

Jazz-Hip Hop Dance Combo - ages 6-9

Kid's Shopping Day - Grades K-5th

Calling all little shoppers! We will accompany participants to Hanes Mall where they will have the opportunity to purchase gifts for friends and family. When we return, we will wrap our gifts. Lunch will be provided. Participants will need to bring money to spend on gifts.

 

Pickleball - ages 18+
Monday, Thursday, Friday
9:30-11:30a.m. (Monday & Friday); Learn to Play on Thursdays from 6:30-8:30p.m.  Want to learn to play the hottest game in town? We will have both learning opportunities for the newbie and open play times as well. Pickleball is a fun game played on a badminton court with the net lowered to 34" at the center. It is played with a perforated plastic baseball and wood or composite paddles. It is easy for beginners to learn, but can develop into a quick, fast-paced, competitive game for experienced players. Persons need to have good balance and be able to move quickly on a court.

 

Praise Dance - ages 10-13

A safe and fun program for youth on teacher workdays. Each day will have a designated topic or event, and may include gym games, outside play, board and table games, movies and field trips. Participants are asked to bring their own lunch and two snacks daily. Additional dates: December 30, January 2, 5, 19, 23, 26.

 

Thanksgiving Food Drive
November 3, 2014 - November 24, 2014
9a.m.-9p.m. (Monday-Thursday); 9a.m.-6p.m. (Friday); 9a.m.-2p.m. (Saturday)  We will be collecting donations of non-perishable food items for The Salvation Army through November 24. Items most needed include canned meats, soups, peanut butter and jelly, rice, cereal, canned fruits and canned vegetables. The community is invited to drop off donations during center hours.

 

Walking for Wellness
Wednesday
9:15-11:30a.m.  Walking is an excellent way to maintain a healthy lifestyle. The gym will be open for walking to help you walk your way to a healthy you and met your fitness goals. Just over 18 laps=1 mile.

 

Young Champions - Karate - ages 4-16
Thursdays
February 5, 2015 - June 11, 2015
6-6:45p.m. (beginners); 6:45-7:30p.m. (yellow & green belt); 7:30-8:15p.m. (blue belt and above)  Fee:$10 registration fee, $7 per class
Deadline for enrollment: 2/19/15
A comprehensive martial arts class that promotes safety, self-awareness, physical fitness, and self-confidence. Testing is available at the end of the session to advance to the next level at an additional fee.

 

Zumba - ages 12+
Mondays & Wednesdays
6:30-7:30p.m.  Fee:$5 per class, $4 students, $40 punch card - 10 classes
Information & Registration            
This is a fun way to get into shape. The routines include interval sessions where fast and slow rhythms and resistance will be used to help you burn calories, improve your endurance, and tone muscles.
