Oakview Recreation Center was built in 1974 and features a gymnasium, activity room, game room, lighted baseball and softball fields, lighted athletic multipurpose field, two lighted tennis courts, two OVRC Building Picturehorseshoe pits, a bocce court, playground and an outdoor shelter with a grill and four picnic tables.

The Center is available for rental opportunities to the public when not in use for regular operational programs and activities.  You may rent the Center for reunions, birthday parties, wedding receptions, graduation parties, or any type of family gathering you may have.  Call the Center to request a date and obtain rates.

Summer hours of operation:  Monday-Thursday, 7:30am-9:00pm; Friday, 7:30am-6:00pm; Saturday, 9:00am-1:00pm.

Off-Season hours of operation:  Monday & Wednesday, 2:00pm-9:00pm; Tuesday & Thursday, 9:00am-9:00pm; Friday, 2:00pm-6:00pm; Saturday, 9:00am-2:00pm.  These hours will be in effect during the Guilford County School calendar year.

 

"Space & Science" Summer Enrichment Camp

This camp will combine the best of space and science with the fun of a summer day camp. Space and science workshops will be held three days a week. The workshops will explore the themes of rockets, stars, telescopes, nanoscience, astronaut training and more through speakers and experiments such as solar bags, solar reactive paper and space sand. We will take a field trip to the NC A&T planetarium. The camp will also incorporate the fun of summer with organized games, sports, arts & crafts, outside play and field trips for swimming, rock climbing, movies, go karts, boating and fishing, cookouts and more in a safe and supervised environment. Camp is for rising K-5th graders and 6th-8th graders.

 

After School Program

2:30-6p.m.  Fee:$125.00 per month
Registration Packet            
This program provides a fun, safe environment for your child. Dedicated staff supervise participants as they complete homework, play gym and outside games, create arts and crafts projects, go on field trips and have special events. This program operates on days when school is in session.

 

AHOY Exercise
Tuesdays & Thursdays

A basic fitness class offered to seniors ages 56 and up, to improve their health and fitness. These senior friendly exercises work to increase flexibility, circulation and overall health.

 

Big Fun Gym

Bring your 3 to 5 year old out for a fun morning activity. Each date will explore a new experience to include sports, music, art, cooking and more. Contact the Center for each date's scheduled activity.

 

Dog Obedience
Tuesdays

Information & Registration            
Qualified instructors teach pet owners techniques to train their dogs using verbal and hand commands. Basic commands such as sit and stay, ways to walk with your dog, as well as socialization with other dogs and people are taught. Owners leave the class with a set of tools to better train their dogs. Participants must bring the pet's shot record, a 6' non-retractable leash, a choke collar and treats.

Young Champions - Children's Self Defense/Karate

6-6:45p.m. (beginners); 6:45-7:30p.m. (advanced)  Fee:$8.00 registration fee, $7.00 per class
Deadline for enrollment: 3rd Class
This fun course for children ages 5-14 is designed for self-defense purposes emphasizing child safety awareness. A certified black belt instructor will teach various basic self-defense/Karate techniques and forms. Students completing the course with perfect attendance will receive a Karate medal. Testing is available for rank promotion.

 

Zumba
Mondays & Wednesdays
6:30-7:30p.m.  Fee:$5.00 per class, Students & Teachers - $4.00 per class with valid ID, $45.00 for a 10 class punch card
Information & Registration            
This is a fun way to get into shape. This class combines Latin dance moves with lively vibrations of music that won't let you stand still. The routines will include interval sessions where fast and slow rhythms and resistance will be used to help you burn calories, improve your endurance, tone muscles and gets you ready for a night on the town. This is a new wave of exercise.
