Summer hours of operation:
 
Monday-Thursday, 9:00am-9:00pm; Friday, 9:00am-6:00pm; Saturday, 9:00am-2:00pm.

Fall/Winter hours of operation:  Monday & Wednesday, 2:00pm-9:00pm; Tuesday & Thursday, 9:00am-9:00pm; Friday, 2:00pm-9:00pm; Saturday, 9:00am-2:00pm.  These hours will be in effect during the Guilford County School calendar year. 

Oakview Recreation Center was built in 1974 and features a gymnasium, activity room, game room, lighted baseball and softball fields, lighted athletic multipurpose field, two lighted tennis courts, two OVRC Building Picturehorseshoe pits, a bocce court, playground and an outdoor shelter with a grill and four picnic tables.

The Center is available for rental opportunities to the public when not in use for regular operational programs and activities.  You may rent the Center for reunions, birthday parties, wedding receptions, graduation parties, or any type of family gathering you may have.  Call the Center to request a date and obtain rates.

Current Programs 

Add Health to our Years (AHOY) Senior Exercise Class - ages 55+
Tuesdays & Thursdays
9-10a.m.  A free, basic fitness class offered for those 55 and older that focuses on increasing flexibility, circulation and overall health.

 

After School Program - Grades K-5th
Monday-Friday
2-6p.m.  Fee:$125.00 per month
Registration Packet            
Our After School Program provides a fun, safe environment for your child as they complete homework, play gym and outside games, create arts & crafts projects, go on field trips and more. The program operates on days when school is in session. Call us for more program details.

 

Children's Cooking Class - ages 6-12

Children will love mixing and creating "no bake" goodies while learning the basics of mixing and measuring. Registration fee includes all tools and ingredients.

 

Children's Night Out - ages 6-12

Community Baseball Program Registration - ages 4-8
Monday-Saturday
During Operational Hours  Fee:$35.00 per person
Deadline for enrollment: 5/31/14
Registration Packet            
This program teaches youth the basics of T-ball or Coach Pitch Baseball in a structured league. Sportsmanship and teamwork are emphasized. Practices and games are held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and on Saturday mornings. Volunteer coaches are needed! You may obtain a registration form online, at our Administration Office or at any Recreation Center. Call 883-3508 for more information.

 

Dog Obedience Class

Instructor: Shirley Probert
Information & Registration            
Qualified instructors will teach owners and dogs basic commands and socialization skills. Dog must be at least 8-weeks old. Participants must bring their pet's shot record, a 6' non-retractable leash, a choke collar and treats.

 

Don't Get Lost - A Survival Class for Families - ages 6+

Sign your family up for this great informational class to teach them how to be safe if they get lost in the woods. These wilderness safety tips can help your family be prepared in case the unthinkable happens.

 

Flag Football Registration - ages 5-7

This program is sure to prepare your future NFL star. This is a beginner's league for where focus will be on game rules, catching, passing, field position, sportsmanship and an appreciation of teamwork. No score is kept. League will play on Tuesdays & Thursdays (6-8pm) and Saturdays (10am-12pm), August 5-September 27.

10:30a.m-12p.m.  Looking for a place to walk on rainy or cold mornings? Our gym is open for walking to get that much needed exercise.

 

Kid's Club - end of School Party - ages 6-12

Little Kickers Soccer Registration - ages 3-6

Bring your future soccer star out for this fun-filled instructional league. They will have the opportunity to learn the basic skills of soccer and improve their skills, all while making friends and having fun! This is a non-competitive league where no score is kept. Volunteer coaches needed! League will play on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

 

Nature Crafts and Games - ages 6-12

With a new topic each month, children can learn about nature through the use of crafts and games. April - learn about different birds, how they use their wings and beak, and make a birdhouse to take home. May - learn how to compost kitchen scraps to make rich, fertile soil and make a worm bin to take home, with the worms! This class is great for scout groups looking to meet badge requirements.

 

Oakview Youth Programs Book Drive

During Center Operational Hours  We are in need of new or gently-used children's books for our children's programs. Our goal is to collect 250 books before Summer Camp begins. Books should be appropriate for children in K-8th grades.

Teacher Work Day Program - Grades K-5th

A safe and fun program for youth in grades K-5th during spring break and on teacher workdays. Each day will have a designated topic or event, and may include gym games, outside play, board and table games, movies and field trips. Participants are asked to bring their own lunch and two snacks daily.

 

Wilderness Skills Series - ages 13+

Learn the skills that may save your life in the wilderness. This 4-session series will teach you how to build a fire, cook, edibles, purify water and make a shelter.

This is a fun way to get into shape. The routines will include interval sessions where fast and slow rhythms and resistance will be used to help you burn calories, improve your endurance, and tone muscles.
