High Point's historic preservation program includes administering the Historic Overlay Zoning District regulations for three designated Local Historic Districts. In addition, it includes providing information and guidance to property owners seeking to list their properties in the National Register of Historic Places, or who are seeking designation as a Guilford County Landmark Property. The program also looks to increase public awareness of the many historic resources within the City, and encourage preservation of those resources through both public and private efforts.
The City's urban forestry program is a long-range strategy for maintaining and enhancing the urban forest. This includes the administration of standards and practices for the conservation and maintenance of the city’s trees and the development of programs to educate people about proper tree practices, to encourage volunteer tree planting efforts, and to increase public awareness and support of the community’s urban forest.
