Why I love High Point
- I fell in love with High Point and since 2008 I have called High Point my home. I have raised my two kids here and as a family we have explored many areas of the city. We have hiked through the natural trails at the Piedmont environmental center. We have walked the greenway from Armstrong Park all the way to Five Points. We have been in a boat ride through City Lake and have caught catfish at the Oak Hallow Marina. There are just among the few reasons why I love High Point.
Why I chose to get involved
– Being involved is a natural progression of the work I have been doing in the city for the past two years. Two years ago me and a couple of friends got together and created a group called “People are the Point!” Our mission was to improve the daily lives of all High Point residents by investing in our greatest asset: people. Happiness and a sense of meaning was our goal. We became active in city policy by attending city meetings and being part of the discussion groups involved in transportation, entertainment and food. We made great progress in all areas of focus we went out in to the city and found dangerous intersections were crosswalks were need, we advise the city to take bicycle lanes into consideration when building or renovation exciting roadways. We proposed the planting of the greenway with edible plants and trees, we helped clear the land for the west end community garden. In a sense I have been the gardener spreading good seeds around High Point watching them grow into beautiful plants bearing fruit.
