 2019 High Point Parks & Recreation Summer Staff

High Point Parks & Recreation is seeking energetic and top-quality individuals for various seasonal employment opportunities. From summer camp counselor and lifeguard positions, to park attendants and grill room staff, Parks & Recreation needs employees with a variety of experience and qualifications. Interested candidates should visit the city’s website to apply. Hiring officials will begin to fill positions from the applicant pool until they have filled all positions. We offer Red Cross training for anyone needing to obtain their lifeguard certification.

 AQUATIC STAFF

**Pool Manager 
  • Duties include supervising open swim operations; developing classes, managing swim teams and rental agreements; supervising maintenance operations and lifeguards; keeping records of attendance, revenue, and chemical levels. 
  • Hourly wage starts at $15.50 per hour, based on qualifications and experience. 
  • Must have Certified Pool Operators Certification and previous experience with pool management and programming. 
  • Must have current Red Cross Lifeguard Certification, First Aid and CPR certifications prior to pool opening. 
  • Position available April–September, 40-hour work week from May-August, including most weekends and holidays. Must be available weekends starting in early May. 

**Assistant Pool Manager 

  • Duties – assisting pool manager in supervision of pool staff, swim and maintenance operations, swim lesson plans, and maintaining records of attendance and revenue. 
  • Hourly wage starts at $14.50 per hour, based on qualifications and experience. 
  • Must have previous experience with pool management and programming.
  • Must have current Red Cross Lifeguard Certifications, First Aid and CPR certifications prior to pool opening. 
  • Supervises operations in absence of Pool Manager and lifeguards as needed. 
  • Position available April–September, 40-hour work week from May-August, including most weekends and holidays. Must be available weekends starting in early May.

**Lifeguards 

  • Duties include monitoring pool and waterslide patrons, pool maintenance, swim instruction, and other duties as required. 
  • Hourly wage starts at $11 per hour, based on qualifications and experience. 
  • Must have current Red Cross Life Guard Certification, first aid and CPR certifications prior to the pool opening. 
  • Scheduled hours are: 
    • Weekends beginning the middle of May, 15-20 hours per weekend. 
    • Weekdays and weekends (full weeks) June-August, 36-40 hours per week. 
    • Weekends from the end of August to Labor Day, 15-20 hours per weekend.
  • Must be able to work most weekends, holidays and some evenings. 

Pool Attendant – High Point City Lake Pool & Washington Terrace Park Pool 

  • Duties include operating pool concessions, gate cashier, maintenance and operations of concessions and waterslides, and customer service. 
  • Hourly wage starts at $10 per hour, based on qualifications and experience.
  • Position requires applicant to be 16 years of age or older. 
  • Scheduled hours are: 
    • Weekends beginning the middle of May, 15-20 hours per weekend. 
    • Weekdays and weekends (full weeks) June-August, 36-40 hours per week. 
    • Weekends from the end of August to Labor Day, 15-20 hours per weekend. 
  • Must be able to work most weekends, holidays and some evenings. 

**PLEASE NOTE: ALL Lifeguards, Assistant Pool Managers and Pool Managers must be certified by the American Red Cross for First Aid, CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Water Safety class prior to opening day of the pool. Seasonal Park Attendants - Maintenance

  • Duties include park grounds maintenance, mowing, trimming, park cleanup, assisting marina staff with boat rentals and shelter reservations, and providing excellent customer service.
  • Hourly wage starts at $10 per hour, based on qualifications and experience.
  • Position requires applicant to be 18 years of age or older. Valid driver’s license required.
  • Scheduled hours are:
    • Weekends beginning the middle of April through May, 15 hours per weekend.
    • Weekdays and weekends (full weeks) June-August, 36-40 hours per week.
    • Weekends from the end of August to middle of October, 15 hours per weekend.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
Seasonal Park Attendants – Operations
  • Duties include operating rides and concessions, maintenance and operations of related equipment, and providing excellent customer service.
  • Hourly wage starts at $10 per hour, based on qualifications and experience.
  • Position requires applicant to be 18 years of age or older. Valid driver's license required.
  • Scheduled hours are:
    • Weekends beginning the middle of April through May, 15 hours per weekend.

INTERNSHIPS

  • Two paid positions are available to college students majoring in Parks & Recreation, or a related field.
  • Internships include a comprehensive experience of operations as it relates to administration, recreation programming, facility management, special events, marketing, and maintenance.
  • Depending on the number of hours required for the internship, interns may visit facilities, observe staff, participate in various phases of program development, and learn about facility operations.
  • Positions available May-August.

 Seasonal Park Attendant – Oak Hollow Golf & Blair Park Golf Courses

  • Duties include basic maintenance of mowing golf course, maintaining flower beds, trash pickup.
  • Hourly wage starts at $10 per hour, based on qualifications and experience.
  • Must be 16 years of age or older and possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to work 40 hours per week, with a flexible schedule including weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
  • Typical schedule is 6:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., Monday to Thursday, 6:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Friday, and 6:30 a.m.-9:30 a.m. on one of the weekend days (alternates every weekend).

Seasonal Park Attendant
  • Duties include greeting tennis patrons, opening and closing the facility, taking reservations, collecting and counting fees, recording tennis lesson registrations and receipts, preparing daily expense and revenue reports/deposits, loading and unloading items and equipment, assisting in clay court preparation, and assisting in daily clean-up of all tennis facilities.
  • Hourly wage starts at $10 per hous, based on qualifications and experience.
  • Must be 16 years of age or older and possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to work 40 hours per week, with a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.
PARK MAINTENANCE

  • Duties include picking up litter, mowing, raking, weed eating, planting shrubbery and flowers, painting, and maintaining equipment. 
  • Hourly wage starts at $10 per hour, based on qualifications and experience.
  • Position requires applicant to be at least 18 years of age, be able to lift 50 pounds or more, and be able to work in all weather conditions. A valid driver’s license required.

Seasonal Naturalist
  • Duties include assisting with summer camps at Piedmont Environmental Center, educating school-age children about nature in the Piedmont NC through different activities, oversee field trips with the Advanced Nature Camp.
  • Great opportunity for college intern to learn more about natural history, ecology and geography of North Carolina.
  • Hourly wage starts at $10 per hour, based on qualifications and experience.
  • Applicant must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license. They must also have the ability to work with school aged children, a basic knowledge of the natural world, and an interest in learning more. 
  • Must be able to work 40 hours per week, with a flexible schedule including weekdays, weekends, and holidays.

SUMMER CAMP PROGRAMS

Summer Camp Counselors – approximately 12 positions Contact Julie Luecht at 336-883-3502 Duties include supervision of participants in a summer camp setting; participating in all activities with campers; supervision on field trips; behavior management; planning and leading activities. Summer Camp Locations – Oakview, Allen Jay, and Deep River Recreation Centers. Hourly wage starts at $10.25 per hour, based on qualifications and experience. Applicant must have a valid NC Driver’s License, ability to drive a 15-passenger van, and must be 18 years of age or older. Previous experience working with elementary and middle school aged children is preferred. Candidate must be available 40 hours per week, with a flexible schedule, Monday-Friday, 8 am-4 pm. Camp runs June - August.Camp Ann Staff (Director, Assistant Director, and Camp Counselors)Contact Shayle Wigger at 336-883-3481Duties include leading activities and programs at Camp Ann, a summer camp for children and adults with disabilities, and transporting participants in a 15-passenger van. Hourly wage starts at $10.75 per hour, based on qualifications and experience. Applicant must be 18 years of age or older, possess a valid NC Driver’s License, and be able to drive a 15- passenger van. Prefer individuals who have worked in a therapeutic camp setting with people of differing abilities. Candidate must be available 40 hours per week, with a flexible schedule, Monday-Friday. Camp runs June - August.

  Seasonal Park Attendants/Groundskeeper

  • Hourly wage starts at $10 per hour, based on qualifications and experience. 20-30 hour work week.
