Q:  When does filing for the candidates start?

A:  The filing period for the Mayor and Council commences on Friday, July 7th at 12:00 p.m. and

      concludes at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, July 21, 2017.


Q:  How much does it cost to file and run for the office of Mayor and Council?

A:  The City Council has set the filing fee at $96.

Q:  What are the requirements to file for the office of Mayor and Council?


  • Must be a registered voter
  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Must reside in High Point corporate limits
  • Must be eligible to vote for the office filed (if filing for a specific ward, must be a resident of that ward and must be eligible to vote in that ward).  At-large and mayoral candidates do not have to reside in specific wards, but must reside within the corporate limits of High Point and must be eligible to vote in the Municipal Election.
