Main & Lexington Street Closure

Lexington Avenue will be closed at its intersection with North Main Street in High Point, N.C. beginning Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2020, for a City construction project to improve pedestrian crossings, update public water and sewer and install an underground electric duct bank, mast arms and traffic signals.

The project will last for approximately 230 days, with construction taking place until the beginning of the 2020 spring furniture market. During market, work will cease, and pavement will be patched and marked to allow full traffic flow. Construction will resume after the spring market is over and is expected to be completed in September 2020.

During this time, Main Street will be reduced to one lane both northbound and southbound, and detours will be put in place. For questions or more information, contact Terry Kuneff at 336.883.8583 or terry.kuneff@highpointnc.gov.

The last water shut down for this phase is set for this Saturday at 7:00 a.m. and will be cut back on around 8:30 a.m.  The businesses are along Lexington from 101 Lexington to 301 Lexington and 112 Lexington to 218 Lexington.  Please reach out if you have any questions.

Currently, Yates is patching the street cuts for this phase and replacing curb and gutter along the sidewalk in front of Times Square.

Conduit work to power poles is still in progress around the vaults at 112 W Lexington and 1325, 1313 N Main.  Crews will be working around those areas in the coming week.

Yates is ahead of schedule and will be finished on this side before the market.  We will be flipping traffic and moving to the other side(E Lexington) in the next two or three weeks.
