Ride-Along Program

The High Point Police Department is committed to building and maintaining relationships with community members and helping them understand our crimefighting strategies. A ride-along gives community members a firsthand look at how High Point police officers work to keep the city safe. A ride-along is a unique opportunity to learn about the daily challenges and risks officers face while protecting and serving the community.

Program Eligibility

Anyone interested in participating in the ride-along program must complete an application.

Other requirements include:

  1. Applicant must be at least 16 years of age (waiver required).
  2. Applicant must not have pending felony or serious misdemeanor charges. Applicants must not have any felony or serious misdemeanor convictions. The application process includes a background check.
  3. Applicants must watch the CJIS Security Awareness Training video prior to scheduling a ride-along.
  4. Applicant must complete a Waiver of Liability form.
  5. No participant will act as a police agent in any manner.
  6. No participant is allowed to go inside a residence or any other location where a reasonable expectation of privacy exists.
  7. Participants will not carry any weapons, including firearms, batons, pepper spray, etc.
  8. Participants are not allowed to use cell phones or other recording devices to photograph, record or livestream crime scenes or any other sensitive information.

Applicants may bring a completed copy of the ride-along application to the High Point Police Department (1730 Westchester Drive) or email it to the Community Outreach Officer.
