Piedmont Environmental Center (PEC) provides programs and a place to learn, conserve and enjoy the natural world through hands on experiences emphasizing the interrelated and and fragile nature of life. Naturals trails, the High Point Greenway and the Bicentennial Greenway converge at the Piedmont Environmental Center.

Facility Hours

Building and restroom access - Sunday - Saturday, 9 a.m. - 5p.m.
Trail hours: sunrise to sunset.

Features

  • 6.6 miles of natural trails and access to the High Point and Bicentennial Greenways
  • Educational classes for all ages, school groups and individual programs
  • North Carolina Mapscape - 70' x 30' walk-on topographic map
  • Small animal exhibits
  • Conference and classrooms

School Groups

We offer special field experiences and classes for students from kindergarten through high school. Teachers can contact the center for class details to reserve a date for their students. Maximum number of students is 75. Four large than 75, please look to arrange two days. Classes are rain or shine. In the event of inclement weather, staff Naturalists are prepared with alternative class experiences within the curriculum framework appropriate to the attending grade level.

Trails

High Point offers 6.6 miles of natural surface trails through the hardwood, pine forest and lakeside habitats.

South Preserve distances:

  • Bill Faver Lakeshore Trail (white marker) - 1.8 miles
  • Fiddlehead Trail (yellow marker) - .2 miles
  • Pine Thicket Trail (red marker) - .2 miles
  • Dogwood Trail (orange marker) - .4 miles
  • Chickadee Trail (green marker) - .3 miles
  • Raccoon Run Trail (blue marker) - .6 miles
  • Wildflower Trail (purple marker) - .4 miles

North Preserve distances:

  • Deep River Trail (red/white marker) - 2.3 miles
  • Hollis Roger Pine Woods Trail (orange/green marker) - .4 miles

Friends of PEC

Support environmental education programs by becoming a member of "Friends of PEC." As a member you will receive special discounted rates on trips, activities and special events. Program calendars and brochures are mailed to you giving you advanced notice of upcoming programs and activities. Memberships are on a yearly basis.
