High Point Transit System ACCESS
Specialized Transportation for Elderly & Disabled Residents
HPTS ACCESS is a specialized public transportation alternative for those persons who cannot utilize High Point Transit System's fixed-route system. HPTS ACCESS offers door-to-door transportation service, for those who qualify, to and from employment, medical appointments, school, recreational activities, meals, shopping, and personal business trips.
HPTS ACCESS operates Monday through Friday from 5:45 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 8:45 a.m. until 5:15 p.m.
The HPTS ACCESS drivers have been trained in the proper procedures for assisting disabled persons and are highly qualified individuals.
Applying for HPTS ACCESS
HPTS ACCESS offers two types of service - Demand Response Transportation Service and ADA Complementary Paratransit Service.Demand Response Transportation Service
is for individuals that live within the city limits of High Point that are age 70 or older. If you meet this criterion more information is available by clicking the Demand Response Transportation Service link on the left side of the page.ADA Complementary Paratransit Service
is a very specific service for individuals who have a permanent or temporary disability and the trips begin and end within the ADA service area. If an individual meets the eligibility criteria with respect to some trips but not others, the individual shall be ADA complementary paratransit eligible only for those trips for which he or she meets the criteria. Other trips may be served under the Demand Response Transportation Service on a space available basis.The following individuals are eligible for ADA complementary paratransit service:
- Any individual with a disability who is unable, as the result of a physical or mental impairment (including a vision impairment), and without the assistance of another individual (except the operator of a wheelchair lift or ramp), to get on, ride, or get off from any bus on the system which is readily accessible to and usable by individuals with disabilities.
- Any individual with a disability who needs the assistance of a wheelchair lift or ramp and is able, with such assistance, to get on, ride and get off an accessible bus, but an accessible bus is not being used on the route.
- Any individual with a disability who has a specific impairment- related condition which prevents the individual from traveling to a bus stop or traveling from a bus stop on the fixed route system.
