Kid Volunteer Opportunities

School Year Volunteer Opportunities:

Book Buddies: Application period open Sept 1 through 15 2023.

The Book Buddies program will pair older students (Big Buddies in 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade) with younger students (Little Buddies in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades) for 30-minute sessions of read aloud to help them build their confidence in reading. 

There are two application windows for the Book Buddy Program.   One in the fall (September 1 –September 15), and one in the spring (Jan 1- Jan 15).  If your child would like to build their confidence in reading, or if your child  is a strong reader, patient, and interested in being a Big Buddy .  Please fill out the application here.

Buddies will be assigned on a first come, first served basis.  All remaining submissions will be added to the waitlist to be contacted if an additional slot becomes available.

Summer Volunteer Opportunities:

Junior Friends: Application period has closed for 2023, and will reopen in March 2024


The Junior Friends of the High Point Public Library has been an important part of Children’s Services for over 25 years! The Junior Friends is a library service organization for children that are interested in reading, helping others, and making a difference in our community.  

If you are interested in volunteering, you may pick up an application beginning in March of 2024 at the children’s reference desk or you can print a copy of the application. You must have completed 4th grade-8th grade, no higher than 8th grade to apply.  Applications are due back to the library by April.  Training will take place during the month of May.  Jr. Friends will volunteer during the months of June, July, and August.
