Wrapped in Rainbows: The Life and Work of Zora Neale Hurston
As part of our Southern Writers Series, our Spring topic will focus on a leading light of the Harlem Renaissance, famously the author of Their Eyes Were Watching God. More than a short story writer and novelist, Hurston was an anthropologist and folklorist with an interest in the South and the Caribbean.
Our main selection will be Valerie Boyd’s biography Wrapped in Rainbows, winner of the 2003 Southern Book Critics Circle Award. Additional readings in her short stories and essays will be encouraged. Please let me know by Tuesday, December 28th if you want me to order a copy for you.
Discussion will also be available virtually via Zoom.
Contact Larry Cates for details on how to participate.
We’ll follow in Spring with a unit on William Faulkner.
