[ARCHIVED] Museum plans new Docent training

Are you interested in history? Do you enjoy public speaking? Do you want to give back to the community?

Then the High Point Museum has just the thing for you – become a volunteer. We’re looking for people who are interested in learning about a bit of High Point’s past and helping us pass along that story to our visitors. Our docent program is for ages 18 and up.

“We’re looking forward to working with our community members and having the ability to expand our educational opportunities,” Michael Scott, Museum Curator of Education, said.

Docents simply are educators. They are museum volunteers who give tours and offer information regarding the museum, its exhibits and historic structures.

The docents assist with scheduled group tours for both adults and children. Enthusiasm and an ability to communicate are all you need to get started. Training is free and no prior knowledge of High Point history is necessary. The training will be conducted Tuesdays in May at 10 am.

Check out the website under the “Get Involved” then “Volunteer” section for the application. Fill out the form and either email (, mail (1859 E. Lexington Ave. High Point NC 27262), or drop it off at the Museum by Friday, April 21.

The High Point Museum, a division of the High Point Public Library, is dedicated to sharing Greater High Point’s history, providing perspective for current issues, and strengthening the sense of community.

The City of High Point aims to serve as the catalyst for bringing together the community’s human, economic and civic resources for the purpose of creating the single most livable, safe and prosperous community in America. For more information on the City, visit
