This is Your DOWNTOWN and We Want YOUR INPUT!
On April 3, 2017, the City Council voted to support a multi-purpose stadium in the area around the intersection of Church Avenue and Pine Street. As a part of that proposal, it was estimated that within a 10-year period the area immediately around the stadium could support approximately 350 residential units, 35,000 square feet of retail space, 30,000 square feet of restaurants, 300 hotel rooms, and 75,000 square feet of office space.
The purpose of the Downtown Mixed-Use Area Plan is to conduct a detailed study of the area around the proposed multi-use stadium and to prepare recommendations to guide the growth and redevelopment of the area. Much of this area was identified as the downtown mixed-use district in the Core City Plan that was adopted in 2007, meaning that this is a good location for a traditional downtown for the city of High Point.
City staff has been studying an approximately 131-acre area in the vicinity of the stadium since April and we want to know what you think about the draft concepts and recommendations that have been created for the area.
While the stadium initiative has acted as a catalyst to fulfilling the recommendation of creating this traditional downtown area, it is not the focus of discussion for this meeting. The focus will be on planning for the growth of the area around the stadium.
Please plan to join us and tell us what you think.
