This Saturday, April 28 from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., the High Point Public Library will hold its grand opening for the Library Plaza. This event is going to be filled with something for everyone, from food trucks and music to puppets and a storyteller.
The day begins at 8:30 a.m. with the opening of the High Point Farmers Market for the season. The first 200 people who come to the High Point Farmers Market tent will receive a tote bag. As part of the updated Library Plaza, 20 permanent farmers market stalls were installed and on Saturday all of them will be full with farmers and vendors. Strawberries and spring vegetables will be available as well as local crafts.
The official ribbon cutting will take place at 9:30 a.m. with several elected officials expected to be in attendance including Senator Trudy Wade, Representative John Faircloth and Congressman Ted Budd as well as High Point Mayor Jay Wagoner and other members of the High Point City Council. The National Anthem will be performed by High Point Christian Academy Women's Ensemble directed by Tami Fields, Fine Arts Director.
The Community Plaza will be full of activity throughout the day and the Library will be open during the event. Musical entertainment will be provided by Big Bang Boom from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. and The Pop Guns from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. and DJ Hek Yea will be playing music throughout the day.
In the Arts and Education Plaza a variety of activities will be taking place including Storyteller Donna Washington who will perform at 10 a.m. There also will be a face painter, make and take crafts, bubbles, sidewalk chalk and a photo booth. The costumed blacksmith from the High Point Museum will be conducting demonstrations from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Eli Villatoro with the YWCA High Point will be conducting cooking demonstrations between 9 a.m. and noon. He will be preparing a traditional stir fry using asparagus, peas, onions, carrots, and ginger. Staff and students from High Point University Congdon School of Health Sciences will be conducting health screenings.
Food trucks (Zeko’s 2 Go, Manna Food Truck, High Point University Ice Cream and Sunset Slush of High Point), a beer garden (by Brown Truck Brewing) from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and a petting zoo all will be part of this fun filled day.
