[ARCHIVED] The Lost Grandmother: atDNA and a 19th-Century Family History Mystery

The Lost Grandmother Cutdown

Monday, 6 June 2022
7:30 to 9 pm EST

A Guilford County Genealogical Society Zoom Meeting

GCGS presents Larry Cates, a family history librarian at High Point (N.C.) Public Library and editor of the Guilford Genealogist, as he walks you through how he identified the parents of a woman born in North Carolina but married in Virginia and who died before death records were kept. There were no obvious clues to her parents' identity. This 19th-century case yielded its secrets with moderate effort using the DNA results of the lady's great-great granddaughter. In this case, documentary evidence was later found to substantiate the findings. You can achieve similar results using the same method.
