WHEN CRIME DOES PAY: Using N.C. Criminal Records for Family History

Larry Cates of the Heritage Research Center will explain the various types of criminal court records generated in nineteenth-century North Carolina, from dockets to writs to summons to depositions, where and how they can be found and the impact they can have on your understanding of family relationships and individual ancestors. This presentation is peppered with spicy examples from his own genealogical research collected across three decades. The event is co-sponsored by the North Carolina Genealogical Society.
