The Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics will come through High Point on Friday May 27, 2015. The run will start at 9:30 a.m. The torch will be picked up in the 3000 block of S. Main St. at the city limits and will run north on Main St. to the intersection of Old N. Main and Old Plank Rd. where we will end in the parking lot of Sheetz. High Point Police Officers and friends have raised over $10,000 for Special Olympics so far this year! Please come out and support Special Olympics North Carolina and the nearly 40,000 athletes in NC. Anyone is welcome to come out and run with the officers from High Point PD. Follow vehicles will be used for anyone that needs a break or falls too far behind the group. Each runner will receive a Special Olympics shirt and requested that everyone wear the shirt during the run. Anyone interested in running can meet at the High Point Police Department beginning at 8:30a.m. to pick up your shirt and transportation will be provided to the start location and back to the police department.
Each summer, law enforcement officials in North Carolina carry the Flame of Hope across the state in The Torch Run Final Leg, culminating in the lighting of the cauldron to officially open the Special Olympics North Carolina Summer Games in Raleigh. The 2,000-mile, 15-day Torch Run Relay involves more than 2,500 law enforcement officers and personnel representing law enforcement agencies across North Carolina.
