[ARCHIVED] High Point Museum Plans Busy Summer

HIGH POINT, NC (May 19, 2016) Beginning Wednesday, June 1, the High Point Museum will be open additional days. The new regular operating schedule for the Museum will be Tuesday-Saturday from 10 am to 4:30 pm. Also, the Museum and Historical Park will be open on Sunday afternoons for the summer. The Museum will be open from 1 pm to 4:30 pm and the Historical Park will be open 1 pm to 4 pm on Sundays during June, July and August. This change represents an increase of hours that the Museum is open to the public going from 26 hours to 36 hours a week through the summer.

“We are so happy to finally be able to re-open on Tuesdays and expand weekend hours during the summer months, when we typically see our highest visitation while school is out and families are on vacation,” Edith Brady, Museum Director, said.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation crews are working on replacing the bridge on Lexington Avenue over Boulding Creek. The new bridge should be open by August 19. The High Point Museum will be open during its regular business hours throughout the construction. A 1.5 mile detour will be in place. It will direct motorists along North University Parkway and Montileu Avenue.

Throughout the summer, the Museum has various activities and events planned including Civil War Reenactors (Saturday, June 25), Art Splash (Sunday, July 31) and National Night Out (Tuesday, August 2). A new exhibit, The Luthier's Craft: Instrument Making Traditions of the Blue Ridge, will open the weekend of July 9. As usual the Historical Park will be conducting demonstrations and giving tours.

Recently, the City of High Point updated its website – which includes the High Point Museum. The Museum’s website (same address www.highpointmuseum.org) offers a look at the City’s history, research links, information on exhibits and programs as well as more access to the collection. A more prominent icon to schedule group tours is available on the homepage.
