Blair Park NC Civil Rights Trail Marker Dedication
Friday, Nov. 4
Noon

Blair Park Golf Course
Corner of Nathan Hunt Dr. and S. Main St.
High Point, NC

The North Carolina African American Heritage Commission and the High Point Museum will be holding a dedication ceremony for the new historic marker at Blair Park Golf Course on Friday, Nov. 4 at Noon. The program will take place at the corner of Nathan Hunt Dr. and S. Main St. in High Point, NC.

The marker will be included in the North Carolina Civil Rights Trail and celebrates the prominent African American doctors, Perry Little, H.H. Creft, and George Simkins, who protested against the city’s segregated recreational facilities by playing golf at the Blair Park municipal course in December 1954. Noted as being the first planned protest against segregation in High Point, the doctors’ play at Blair Park was one of several challenges to segregated municipal golf courses taking place in North Carolina and across the South in the 1950s. The protest pushed the city to allow African Americans access to the Blair Park course in March of 1956 and served as a catalyst for others to challenge accepted practices in the city.
