50th Annual Holiday Open House
Sunday, Dec. 4

1 - 4 p.m.

Celebrate 50 years of the Holiday Open House with holiday-themed musical performances from local groups, historical demonstrations and interpreters, arts and crafts, refreshments including hot apple cider and cookies, candle dipping, an outdoor exhibit, and a visit from Santa Claus.
 
In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the open house, the High Point Historical Society has organized special guests for the event. Kyle Jenks and Laura Rocklyn, James and Dolly Madison interpreters, will be in the gallery interacting with visitors and recounting stories and holiday traditions from the past.  
 
Entertainment for the afternoon will also include High Point Community Theater performers from 1-1:30 p.m., the High Point University Brass Quartet from 1:30 to 2 p.m., the Penn Griffin Vocal Music Ensemble from 2:10-2:40 p.m., the First Presbyterian Church Handbell Choir from 2:50 to 3:20 p.m. and more. The museum is also excited to welcome back hammer dulcimer player Joe Shelton, who will play in the Haley House.

Blacksmith Demonstration in the Historical Park

Saturdays, Dec. 3, 10, 17, 31, 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. 
Come watch our costumed blacksmith in action as he crafts various iron pieces. All ages are welcome to this free, drop-in event.

Candle Dipping in the Historical Park

Saturday, Dec. 10, 10 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. 

Light up your dark days of winter with a candle made in our historical park.  Our costumed interpreters will show you how.  All ages welcome. Free. Drop-in. Limit 2 per person.

Scottish Faire in Historical Park

Saturday, Dec. 17, 10 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Join our early North Carolina Scots families as they prepare to celebrate and enjoy festive Scottish traditions for New Year’s Eve (Hogmanay) and the Yule season. Enjoy seeing traditional Hogmanay dishes made over an open fire, dancing, music, poetry, and more. Get ready for the end of year festivities by coming in costume! Free to the public.

New Year’s Noisemaker in Little Red Schoolhouse 

Saturday. Dec. 31, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.It’s time to celebrate the end of 2022 and ring in 2023! Before the countdown starts, come by to make your own noisemaker for your New Year’s celebrations! All ages welcome. FREE. Drop-in.
