Jacqueline Arthur-Montagne, PhD will be on board to enlighten us on the influence of the ancient civilizations of the Greeks and Romans and how they have influenced our Architecture, Government, Education, and Social Customs.

The Origins and Evolution of “Classical Style” within Antiquity
From the Capitol Building to the columns of Monticello, the classical ideals of balance and order pervade the aesthetics of the colonial America. In this lecture, I will discuss the origins of some of the most recognizable features of classical style – columns, domes, arches, obelisks – and how classical sites from Sicily to Carthage remodeled them to their own artistic and ideological tastes. We will also enjoy a few surprises in this historical retrospective – such as the fact that archaic temples could take 100 years to complete and that the famously white Parthenon was painted in bold reds and blues.
