The Elm Street Project

As the City of High Point prepares for new downtown development, portions of N. Elm Street between Gatewood Avenue and English Road will be closed beginning Monday, September 10 through February 2019 while underground utility improvements are made.

Update:  1/9/19

This week, crews continued to install storm, waterline and sewer lines toward English Road. They dug out for access of the waterline valve and had the valve turned off. Next week, they will continue installing toward English, and the Church Street intersection will remain closed.

Over the past week, electric crews have completed installation of the vault closest to Davis/Goldberg Orthodontics office. They were able to pour the concrete for the ductbank and run all necessary conduits across Elm Street to a switch. Later this week, crews will attempt to finish the small box bank installation on the corner of Gatewood and Elm, and will move past the Orthodontics office driveway on Friday and Saturday, weather permitting. By mid next week, crews would like to continue to construct the ductbank and move closer to Church Street. They will then continue to move south of the Gatewood and Elm intersection towards Church Street as long as not hampered by snow.
