Sara Blanchett

Museum Welcomes New Staff Member

Sara Blanchett recently joined the High Point Museum staff as Curator of Education. Her responsibilities include developing programming for youth, family and adult audiences. She also will assist with developing exhibits and online educational materials as well as community outreach.
 
Blanchett holds a bachelor of arts degree in Africana Studies and a master’s degree in Public History from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She previously worked in African American Historical Interpretation Ensemble at Colonial Williamsburg and was a collections and exhibitions intern at the Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts. Her most recent role was a Historic Site Manager for Reed Gold Mine.

Lunch and Jazz

The High Point Public Library and High Point Museum in collaboration with Jazz at Lincoln Center will be streaming Jazz concerts from the Lincoln Center for the public's listening pleasure. Come and be a part of music history Tuesday, March 5 from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m.This month is Blood on the Fields Part 2 four generations of master pianists take to the stage of Jazz at Lincoln Center to celebrate the full range of Jazz piano today. The audience is encouraged to bring their own lunch as lunch will not be provided. Come listen, network, collaborate, and celebrate.

Larry Cates has been hard at work using his own atDNA results and those of three close relatives to explore difficult aspects of his ancestry where public records have proven inadequate. He believes you cannot get enough examples of how to apply genetic results to your brick walls. Here are three more cases from his research files.

Join Us for Day Trip to Lynchburg Area

The High Point Historical Society  invites you to a day trip Friday, March 29.  The trip includes tours of Poplar Forest and Point of Honor. The cost for the day is $75  per HPHS member or $90 per non-member (not sure of current membership status contact the Museum) and includes transportation, price of tours and lunch.

The High Point Historical Society is selling memorial and honor cards. Each Memorial & Honor Card ($10/card or 5 for $40) purchased comes with a Collections Trading Card, highlighting one of the objects, photos or archival materials in the High Point Historical Society’s Collection. Each dollar donated to the Historical Society, or spent in the Museum Store goes towards the care and preservation of these artifacts.
