1. What can I bring to the landfill?

Items able to be brought to the landfill include:

-Construction debris

-Household waste

-Old appliances

-Pallets

-Shingles

2. I pay taxes, so why do I have to pay?

The Kersey Valley Landfill does not run off of tax dollars. The landfill is operated by the monies it collects. Please call 336-883-3468 for more information.

3. How is my monthly landfill fee used?

The fee is used for new landfill development, closure of existing facilities and post closure care of facilities. Please call 336-883-3468 for more information.

4. Can I open a charge account?

Yes. A credit application may be filled out. Once a credit check and reference check has been completed you will be notified if your application was accepted. To get started, download and fill out a Credit Application (PDF).

5. Do you have a recycle area?

We do have a recycle dropoff at the landfill, however we suggest taking recyclables 1.5 miles down the road to the Material Recovery Facility (Recycle Center) located at 5875 Riverdale Road. Please call 336-883-3468 for more information.

6. Do you provide unloading service?

7. What can’t I bring to the landfill?

Under Kersey Valley Landfill regulations and under North Carolina General Statute 130A-309.10 the following are banned from landfill disposal:

• Aluminum cans
• Antifreeze
• Beverage containers from ABC permit-holders
• Brush
• Burnt Garbage
• Computer equipment and televisions
• Hazardous Chemicals
• Lead-acid batteries
• Leaves
• Limbs
• Liquid Waste
• Motor vehicle oil filters
• Oil
• Oyster shells
• Paint
• Plastic bottles
• Scrap tires
• Tires
• White goods
• Wooden pallets
• Yard trash

8. What is the difference between a dump and a landfill?

At its most simple:

A dump is an excavated piece of land where people threw trash. They are not longer legal due to the lack of environmental oversight and protection. 

A Landfill is a highly engineered excavated pieces of land operated to provide a human health service. They exist to manage waste but are built in a way that keeps environmental health at the forefront by addressing concerns such as groundwater protection and environmental protections.
