1. Can I put a couch or other bulk item out for pickup?

Yes, this service is available to residential customers for occasional items only, not for a whole house clean outs by a landlord. Please call 336-883-3111 for more information.

2. How can I dispose of an appliance such as a refrigerator, hot water heater or air conditioner?

Appliances like refrigerators, hot water heaters or air conditioners, or “white goods,” can be placed at the curb on your scheduled pickup day. Collection will be made by a separate truck. These items can also be brought to Kersey Valley Landfill for disposal as well.

3. What can I do with my old TV and computer equipment?

North Carolina has a landfill ban on TV’s and computers. Take them to the City’s Material Recovery Center,5875 Riverdale Dr Jamestown, NC, Ingleside Compost Facility & Recycle Drop off site 3001 Ingleside Dr., High Point, or Republic Services 2750 Patterson Street in Greensboro for no charge. 4. How can I discard old carpet?

Carpet rolls no larger than 4 feet long and 18 inches in diameter. No more than 2 rolls will be picked up. Rolls cannot weigh more than 50 pounds. Carpet contractors are responsible for disposal of any and all materials resulting from their work and can be taken to the Kersey Valley Landfill 3940 Kivett Dr., Jamestown, NC

5. How do I dispose of construction or demolition debris?

The City of High Point does not pick up construction and demolition debris. Please take to GFL Construction & Demolition Processing Facility & Landfill 5830 Riverdale Dr., Jamestown, NC.  Please call 336-883-3435 or 336-883-3111 for more information.

6. Why have I received an orange tag?

Please check for the reason noted on the tag. Carts and other items must be placed a minimum of 3 feet away from obstructions such as trees, mailboxes, low hanging lines, vehicles, street signs, etc.  Call Customer Service at 336-883-3111 to request a call back about your orange tag and what we can do to help you better understand.

Curbside Pickup - Violation Process

-1st week: City tags as a violation to educate - tag informs resident what to do with item/items.

-2nd week: City tags again as a violation and warns of fine if not corrected by next collection date.

-3rd week: If resident has not complied, City removes pile and resident is charged $250 per load - and the fee is placed on the utility bill where applicable. If utility services are not applicable, an invoice will be sent to the property owner.

If the customer/homeowner contacts the Environmental Services supervisor and is willing to correct a violation in a timely manner, staff works with the resident without charging.
