All trade work (electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and gas) must be installed and approved before scheduling a framing inspection. However, all inspections can be scheduled on the same day.

In buildings exceeding 2,500 square feet and $90,000 in value, sealed drawings are required if structural work is done, if load is added to the building structure, or if changes to egress are made.

Permits are always require for improvements to commercial buildings unless the scope of work meets the following exclusions - See North Carolina General Statute 143-138 b(16) for exclusions for lighting fixtures and electrical devices. Water heaters are addressed in North Carolina General Statute 143-138 Section (b10).
